Status of HSBC Canada Audio ATM's as of August, 2010

In our on-going efforts to encourage Canada's chartered banks to provide people who are blind or sight-impaired with audio-equipped ATM's, we received, in part, the following update from HSBC Canada in August 2010:

"In April of this year HSBC replaced over half of our Automated Banking Machine fleet to increase our distribution network and provide enhanced capabilities to our customers.

Audio capability is a feature on these new machines however the functionality has not yet been activated. At this point testing and configuration of this capability is progressing which will allow us to enable the audio functionality going forward. We hope to provide you with a list of locations that contain audio accessible ABM’s in the near future.

We recognize the importance of access for sight impaired consumers and as part of HSBC’s strategy we are committed to providing the audio capability in all of our locations as an ongoing improvement.
