Tarasen Gas Announces Large Print Statements

Terasen Gas has announced another communication option for its blind and visually-impaired customers that will offer greater independence in reading monthly statements. Large print billing statements are available for customers who require and request this service.

“Taking care of the needs of our customers is a vital part of our business,” said Doug Stout, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Terasen Gas. “We are constantly striving to find ways to improve our services, and with this new option, we can enhance the independence for those customers with visual disabilities.”

The large print billing option complements the existing Braille service that is available for blind customers. Terasen also offers a W3C compliant website that allows customers to use a text-to-speech converter. In addition, customers have the option to resize online statements easily by accessing their accounts online or to call if they wish to discuss their billing with a Terasen representative.

Customers with visual disabilities can request the large print service by calling the Terasen Customer Service Centre toll free number 1-888-224-2710. Terasen Gas customers will also be advised of the alternate format billing option by way of a billing message that will be included on their September 2009 statement and once again on their February 2010 statement.

Terasen Gas is mainly composed of the operations of Terasen Gas Inc. and Terasen Gas (Vancouver Island) Inc., both indirect wholly owned subsidiaries of Fortis Inc. Fortis Inc., the largest investor-owned distribution utility in Canada, serves more than two million gas and electric customers and has total assets approaching $12billion.
