Access for Sight-Impaired Consumers will also be addressing the unacceptable period of time that it is currently taking for pharmacies operating within stores owned and managed by the Overwaitea Food Group and London Drugs. For more details regarding Accessible Prescription Information, see the text under the header of the same name on our\u00a0<a href=\"\/index.php\/what-were-doing\/\">Current Initiatives<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage the taxi industry in Metro Vancouver and throughout British Columbia to equip their fleets with a greater percentage of taxi meters with optional audio output. The\u00a0<a href=\"\/index.php\/resources-from-a-z\/vancouver-taxi-association-will-install-talking-taxi-meters\/\">Vancouver Taxi Association proudly introduced Canada&#8217;s first &#8220;talking meter&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0on December 5, 2014. Continued follow up of the Vancouver Taxi Association, the BC Taxi Association and directly with taxi companies themselves will be required if we are to achieve our goal.<\/li>\n<li>Promote the installation of universally accessible bus stops within the TransLink service arena. Bus stops which\u00a0meet\u00a0universally accessible guidelines provide the landmarks and tools for people\u00a0 who are blind, deafblind or sight impaired to independently and confidently identify the precise location\u00a0to board\u00a0public transit buses\u00a0at\u00a0a\u00a0bus\u00a0stop.\u00a0Features\u00a0to enhance accessibility\u00a0for\u00a0people with vision loss\u00a0include color-contrasted\u00a0tactile walking\u00a0surface indicators (TWSI&#8217;s) embedded into the sidewalk at the base of the\u00a0bus stop ID pole,\u00a0accessible signage offering both tactile\u00a0and braille\u00a0formats and, in some cases,\u00a0benches\u00a0and\/or\u00a0bus\u00a0shelters.<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing\u00a0the\u00a0municipal\u00a0and\u00a0provincial election\u00a0process\u00a0to be\u00a0truly accessible\u00a0such\u00a0that\u00a0voters with sight loss\u00a0can\u00a0mark\u00a0their ballot without\u00a0sighted assistance and verify\u00a0their\u00a0selection\u00a0before\u00a0depositing\u00a0their ballot into the\u00a0ballot box.\u00a0Internet\u00a0or\u00a0telephone\u00a0voting\u00a0is\u00a0our\u00a0primary\u00a0goal\u00a0but other advanced technologies are available until such time as the former becomes a reality.
